This is a somewhat generic term, but it includes everything from Senior Centers and Recreational Centers to Knights of Columbus, VFWs, Kiwanis Centers and more. The beauty of these locations is that they make it very easy to target specific community sub-group, if necessary.
In many of these venues, visitors will stay upwards of 1-2 hours at a time, with multiple visits monthly - or even weekly!

There's one thing we know for sure: regardless of who's paying for it, community Medical Clinics will remain the primary medical care facilities for a large portion of the population. Between appointments and walk-ins, these offices are constantly busy treating patients both with and without health coverage. If you've ever been to a clinic - or to visit any doctor for that matter - you know just how long the wait can be.

Here's a question: would you spend your leisure time reading about types of psoriasis? Your answer is "no," most likely. But would you spend the long while in the waiting room reading it? You're darn right you would. In a waiting you read anything with words, and stare at anything without. And therein is the value of Medical Clinic media. Patients will look and read it, perhaps glance at the other patients, and then re-look and re-read your poster (or whatever media you choose). With many patients waiting 45-60 minutes, this makes for a ton of impressions in a short time.

As compared to Convenience Stores and Laundromats, you might consider getting a haircut or a manicure somewhat of a luxury, but for most, the likelihood of giving this up (or trying it yourself at home - yikes!) is pretty slim. Looking good is an important part of life, and these venues are the very foundation of that concept.

On top of that, the right media can go a long, long way in these types of stores. Think about it: what is there to do in that chair? You might chat a little, but your eyes have the option of fixating on the scissors or nail file, or searching the store for something to read. A well-placed poster could be read, studied and very likely memorized by a customer coming in for a longer treatment. And let's not forget about those folks sitting around waiting for their turns either. An Elle magazine from last summer only goes so far.

If you want to add a little more "body" to your campaign, consider the potential for utilizing professionals to help promote your brand. I.     Intro

Moderne Interactive has been working closely with the government of Ontario, Canada since late 2007. In that time, we have helped them develop two distinct but complementary Second Life islands. The two entities, OPS Careers and Digital Ontario, have helped the government reach out its citizens in an innovative and interactive way. Ontario has been able to accomplish a variety of goals and objectives in Second Life and continues to expand its presence.

More details about the Ontario islands can be found below, and Moderne Interactive welcomes the opportunity to provide a live tour of the space to demonstrate our work and help inspire ideas for your own Second Life presence.

II.     Awards

Moderne's work with Ontario has been recognized on various occasions for its success. These awards include:

III.     OPS Careers Island

The first of Ontario's two islands to go live, OPS Careers opened its doors for those seeking information on employment the Ontario Public Service. The island features a central hub with information on the available public service career streams, and allowed for 5 interactive job experiences. The Traffic Media Centre and Firefighter simulation were both popular and effective elements of the program, giving a simulation of career concepts. The island has since grown to include more employment opportunities and will now focus on disability accessibility. Using a community panel, Ontario seeks to find ways to discuss and improve accessibility for disabled persons through Second Life and other digital technologies.

IV.     Digital Ontario Island

Launching in December 2008, Digital Ontario Island (DOI) brought a whole new component to the government's Second Life presence. DOI provides visitors with a great deal of information about the Ministry's current Research Focus areas in broadband as a driver of social and economic change. Each of the six focus areas represented has its own designated station to explain and demonstrate its purpose and goals. With a variety of images, videos and other interactive features, this initiative serves an excellent communication tool, providing new connections to government via these digital objectives. In addition, each station has a feedback widget, allowing the public to express their feelings, concerns and questions directly through Second Life.
